In the midsummer heat of August in Horwich, near Bolton Lancashire Rachel & Rik got hitched, tied the knot, made honest people of each other on a day full of laughter, smiles and so much love. I’ve known Rik for some 7 or so years, he was one of those Northerners who opened their arms to make a soft Southerner feel welcome in an unknown part of land he newly called home. Rik, a man of worldly experience, having travelled the high seas as a member of Her Majesties Merchant Navy, opened my eyes and more specifically my ears to tales of extraordinary hilarity, frequently having me in fits of laughter. His long relationship with the lovely Rachel was to be officiated my marriage this year of 2018 and I was offered the great privilege of documenting their special day.
What a day it was; the weather, though threatening us with cloud in the morning, changed it’s mind and, as it had been for most of this summer, cleared to glorious sunshine and the warmth that smiled down on them from the moment they arrived. I take the job seriously and so when it comes to capturing the day where I would otherwise be a guest, it’s a tough job to spend any time enjoying the company as I’m always looking out for another shot that I can’t possibly miss. Though I was able to relax a little and enjoy some incredible belly laughs that are frequently experienced in the presence of Rik.
This day was fantastic and I particularly enjoyed Rachel & Rik’s joint speech which was equally touching and funny. Here’s to Rik & Rachel, congratulations.
